Description:

This was the first meeting of the Working Group 3 of the COST Action MP 1104

In many fields of research, the polarization of light is used to obtain unique information on objects under study; information that in many cases cannot be obtained in any other way when the object is not directly accessible. As the polarization signals are typically small, the measurements are often limited by systematic errors, which require sophisticated polarization measurement techniques and technologies.

For this workshop, we bring together polarimetrists from a wide range of scientific fields: from astronomy to biomedical research, from atmospheric remote sensing to military target detection. We aim to obtain a mix of scientists from academia, research institutes and industry. The main workshop goals are to exchange expertise, identify commonalities and differences, and to jointly tackle challenges related to polarimetry in general, and to individual polarimetric research fields in particular. This will be a true workshop: only half of the time will be dedicated to information exchange through presentations, while the other half will consist of interactive discussion sessions and design assignments.
